about lasik
What is LASIK?

LASIK, an acronym for Laser-assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a form of refractive laser eye surgery procedure performed by your ophthalmologists intended for correcting vision.
What is the Success Rate?
According to the Food and Drug Administration, LASIK surgery has an extremely high success rate. FDA statistics show that 92% to 95% of patients achieve 20/40 vision within six months of surgery.

In addition (99.4 percent) almost all patients with low to moderate myopia achieve 20/40 eyesight or better after their LASIK procedure.

LASIK or Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis is the most frequently performed laser vision correction procedure. After applying topical anesthetic drops, the surgeon creates a thin lap of tissue on the outer surface of the cornea. The hinged flap is then gently lifted and the cool beam of the excimer laser is used to reshape the underlying cornea. The flap is then replaced and bonds without the need for stitches. The entire procedure takes approximately 15 minutes for both eyes, although the laser actually treats most prescriptions in less than one minute per eye.

Custom LASIK is the latest form of LASIK treatment that is personalized to the unique characteristics
of each eye’s individual needs to produce sharper, clearer, more accurate vision than non-customized
LASIK,particularly for patients with more severe vision problems. Improved night vision and reduced glare have also been reported with Custom LASIK.

lasikWhat are the risks and side effects of LASIK?

Although very are rare, as with any surgical procedure there are risks and complications associated with laser vision correction. Some of these include infection, inflammation, glare or halos, and under- or over-correction.

Through rigorous pre-screening and post-operative care, many risks can be minimized, and adverse outcomes can often be corrected through follow-up treatment. Your doctor will discuss the specific risks with you prior to your procedure.
